Summit St. Beautification Project

Summit Street view from the riverThe City of Toledo decided to remove the Summit St. Tarta station after several months of abandonment. Thomas DuBose & Associates was commissioned to provide demolition and construction documents for the vacant Tarta station. The project would return the view north up Madison Avenue and a clear view to the river, looking South down Madison Avenue. The city’s elevated walk way adjacent to the Edison building was to remain intact and active.

Summit Street view - Maddison AvenueThis project posed a challenge to both Thomas DuBose & Associates and the contractors who would be commissioned to perform the work as very few documented records of the utilities running through the area existed. Thomas DuBose & Associates spent a great deal of effort working with the City of Toledo, Division of Facility & Fleet Operations commissioner Ken Neidert on the design process. The demolition was started in between late October and early November. By the middle of December the views up and down Madison Avenue were restored. The new concrete flat work was laid during the unseasonably warm weather of January and the final electrical work was completed late in February. The final walkway work and final concrete flatwork is awaiting the spring warm up, but for now, Levis Plaza and Madison Avenue is looking very presentable.
